The Beneficiary
The Heart Touch Project delivers compassionate and healing touch to homebound or hospitalized AIDS patients, seniors, and children.
Since its inception, Heart Touch has become an important resource for many of Southern Californias largest health care organizations, which have seen the positive effects of compassionate touch therapy on the many ill members of the community.
"It's not about massaging," says founder Shawnee Isaac-Smith. "It's about touch, touch in a very deep way. . . . It's not so much that we're going to cure people. It's really about touching someone who feels untouchable, who has been made to feel untouchable."
Heart Touch offers innovative, comprehensive trainings for massage therapists, bodywork practitioners, medical professionals, and caregivers. Graduates interested in volunteering are then matched on a one-to-one basis with a non-ambulatory client and deliver weekly massage therapy free of charge.
Your Day of Impact
Our morning will excerpt exercises from actual Heart Touch trainings, so that you can experience first-hand Heart Touchs innovative work. After lunch, well enjoy a tour of a hospital facility supported by the organization, then return to the Heart Touch offices to meet volunteers and help the staff prepare for an upcoming training. Well end the day with short massages from Heart Touch volunteers, as a thank you for all of your fundraising.
Fundraising Requirement: $1,300
